Theresa Van Goethem, affectionately known as "van," grew up in Wyandotte County, where she developed a lifelong passion for helping others and giving back to her community. After graduating from Rosedale Jr.-Sr. High School and earning a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Kansas State University, she spent 37 years with KCK Public Schools, teaching students with special needs and later coordinating special education programs. She was honored in the inaugural Reasons to Believe Honor Roll and Rosedale High School Hall of Fame.

Van has volunteered with Special Olympics since 1974 and served with organizations like Cross-Lines Community Outreach and the Foster Grandparent program. A Leadership 2000, Class XVIII, graduate, she later became a facilitator for the program, embodying her belief in servant leadership.

Meeting her husband on a blind date in high school, Van Goethem realizes her luck to be with him for over 53 years. A proud Kansas State University fan, she cherishes her family, especially her grandchildren, and continues to live her best life near Wyandotte County Lake.

Denise Dias (rhymes with bias) is the Wyandotte County Extension Director. She earned her BS degree in Home Economics from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, a Master’s of Science Degree in Apparel Marketing from K-State University, and an MBA in Global Business & Leadership from Friends University.  Denise began her Kansas Extension career in 1996 in Linn County. She has worked in Sedgwick, and Johnson Counties before becoming the Director for Wyandotte County. Denise is celebrating 28 years in Kansas Extension.  She is passionate about teaching and lifelong learning.  In her spare time, she enjoys sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family.  She is married and has 2 grown children living in KCK and Olathe, as well as the most two adorable granddaughters.
